Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has given official notice that he will be returning to work at the end of the month after spending some time in a rehabilitation facility north of the city.

In a letter to the City Clerk, Ford asks that security unlock his office door by 1 p.m. on June 30.

He states that he “will be returning to work in the later portion of the afternoon, to resume [his] duties as Mayor of Toronto.”

Ford took a leave of absence from the Mayor’s office on May 1, in order to enter rehab to deal with what he has said is an issue with alcohol abuse. This came after a series of public incidents where he appeared to be intoxicated, leading many to call for the Mayor’s resignation and the withdrawal of his candidacy from the upcoming election.

Ford has been staying at the GreeneStone Rehab facility in Muskoka, where he was spotted several times posing for pictures with residents. This led some to question whether he was indeed receiving treatment, however, authorities at GreenStone later confirmed he was in fact a registered patient with their facility.
