Omar Sachedina
Reporter/Anchor
Omar Sachedina is no stranger to CP24, where he anchored Toronto’s breaking news station to a new prime time record in the summer of 2009 when a super storm hit Toronto and 1.2 million viewers tuned in to coverage led by Omar.
While at CP24, Omar has covered the 2009 budget from Ottawa, anchored the 2008 Canadian Federal Election Night Coverage, and anchored the 2008 U.S election night, and President Barack Obama’s historic inauguration.
In 2007, at the age of 25, Omar co-hosted and reported for CTV's Canada AM, Canada’s #1 Morning Show’s western edition. Prior to his national success with CTV, he reported for CTV Northern Ontario and spent time behind the scenes at Global Television in Vancouver and Montreal, CBC Radio, and CNN International in London, England.
Omar's family is from Uganda, and is of Indian descent. Born in Vancouver, he was curious about his East African homeland, travelling there in 2005 to produce a PBS Frontline Fellowship web documentary titled Uganda: The Return which explored the return of Asians to Africa, specifically Uganda, after the 1972 expulsion.
Omar has a degree in Political Science from McGill University in Montreal, and a Masters in Journalism from Columbia University in New York. He speaks French, Gujarati, and Kutchi. In his spare time he enjoys music, and reading. Omar's passion for different cultures and countries has taken him to the Middle East, Japan, China, Europe, East and North Africa.
