Jacksonville Jaguars offensive tackle Richard Collier is in hospital today being treated for multiple gunshot wounds.

The 26-year-old was waiting in his vehicle outside an apartment building early this morning when a gunman fired into the vehicle at 2.45 a.m. Former Jaguar Kenneth Pettway was also in the vehicle, but was not injured in the attack.

A hospital official says Collier's is in critical condition at Shands Jacksonville Medical Centre. He is the third NFL player to be shot in the past 18 months.

Police are still investigating the motive behind the attack, which is was unclear. Pettway, who was released in final cuts Saturday, was not injured in the attack.

The shooting happened in a middle to upper middle-class neighbourhood just west of downtown Jacksonville and blocks from the St. Johns River in Florida.
