Broken watermains dot the city after cold weather

cp24.com

Broken watermains flooding areas.

Broken watermains are flooding the city with trouble Thursday morning as crews scramble to shut off water feeds and fix the leaks.

More watermain breaks are expected as temperatures fluctuate and old pipes crack.

But there was one pipe burst in the city overnight that wasn't caused by the cold. A truck turning onto Jamieson from King Street hit an exposed water pipe at a construction site overnight, sending water shooting into the air.

Thousands of litres of water ran down the street.

A watermain break at Inglewood Drive, near Mt. Pleasant Road had water gushing south of St. Clair Avenue before dawn. Even though cars were still able to get around, rushing water breached the curbs and some homes.

People living in the area had to negotiate some soggy territory this morning on their way out. Crews managed to get this break under control at about 10 a.m.
