Three people are dead and a veteran provincial police officer is in critical condition after a case of suspected carbon monoxide poisoning at a Woodstock home.

The bodies of 40-year-old father Richard Hawkins and 14 and 12-year-old children Cassandra and Jordan were found when officers were called to the family's home early Monday.

Constable Laurie Hawkins is fighting for her life after being airlifted to a hospital in Toronto.

Oxford police sgt. David Rektor says Hawkins is a "tremendous officer" who has worked in policing for 20 years.

Oxford community police are declining to speculate on how the deaths occurred.

The OPP say it's believed to be carbon monoxide poisoning.
