A Toronto man accused of endangering the lives of 200 passengers onboard a Toronto-bound flight will remain behind bars until at least Tuesday.

The man is accused of trying to open the emergency doors mid-flight on a Skyservice plane headed from the Caribbean island of Grenada to Toronto on Tuesday. Witnesses have said the disturbance began as an argument over legroom.

Crew members and even some passengers had to tackle and subdue the man, restraining him with his own belt. The Boeing 757 then made an unscheduled landing in the Dominican Republic.

"They strapped him down so we could land," says passenger Joan Bromfield. "It was very scary."

After an overnight layover, the passengers arrived back in Toronto Wednesday night.

Adrian Worrell, 33, faces charges including assault, mischief and endangering the safety of an aircraft in flight.

He appeared briefly in court on Friday, but was remanded into custody until Tuesday, when he is scheduled to have a bail hearing.
