Two people, including a police officer, have been injured in a two-car crash at Queen Street and Woodbine Avenue on Tuesday morning.

An officer had to be pulled from the cruiser after the violent crash at the intersection that sent two cars careening at about 7:25 a.m.

A station wagon was turning onto Queen Street when it was struck by a speeding cruiser on its way to a call. The collision sent the civilian car smashing into a pole on the driver's side, while the cruiser came up just short of crashing into a commercial building.

A female driver was also injured, but police say the two suffered minor injuries.

Both people have been taken to hospital.

Police say the officer was responding to an emergency call.

The intersection was closed for a few hours, while debris from the crash was cleared.
