Toronto FC have signed defender and Scarborough native Adrian Serioux from FC Dallas on Tuesday in exchange for a first round 2010 MLS SuperDraft pick and allocation money.

Ironically, Toronto had selected Serioux in the 2006 expansion draft but he was traded to FC Dallas that same day for Ronnie O'Brien - a league top scorer who failed to live up to expectations in Toronto.

Financial details of the trade were not released due to team policy.

By signing a new central defender, Toronto FC has taken a step to fill the hole left by the departure of defender Maurice Edu to Scotland.

"This is another great signing for our team," says Toronto FC's director of soccer Mo Johnston. "Adrian is a very strong defender plus we're adding another quality Canadian player to our roster. We're excited to get him in here and have him start working out with the rest of the team."

The 29-year-old started in all 34 games with the Texas club in the past two seasons and had a career-high four assists last year. He played for Houston Dynamo in his rookie season three years ago, scoring one goal in 15 starts.

In addition, Serioux played in Dynamo's four post-season matches in 2006, helping them win the MLS Cup.

Serioux is a member of the Canadian National Team and currently has 19 caps for his country.
