The former head of Steelback Brewery, Frank D'Angelo, has been found not guilty of sexually assaulting a young woman in June 2007.

D'Angelo and his 22-year-old accuser faced each other in court this week, testifying about their encounter.

The court heard the pair met for lunch to discuss a job opportunity for the woman, who was 20 years old at the time.

Afterward they went to D'Aneglo's hotel room, where the woman claims she was sexually assaulted. D'Angelo, 49, says the sex was consensual.

Superior Court Justice John Hamilton says he found the accused and accuser both credible. Hamilton says he could only find that D'Angelo was "probably guilty" of the offence, which isn't beyond a reasonable doubt.

Outside the court, D'Angelo says he was happy with the verdict because it's been a long two years for him and his family.

"I'm emotional today," he says. "I told the truth and justice was served."

The woman did not appear in court for the verdict.
