More than 40,000 people are without power across Ontario after a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Toronto on Saturday afternoon.

Power outages are being reported across the GTA, Barrie, Kitchener and Waterloo.

Hydro One spokesperson Corey Labatt says the outages are mainly in areas including Clinton, Minden, Guelph, Orangeville, Bancroft and Orillia to name a few.

Labatt says crews will be working overnight to restore power as soon as possible. The outages are due to the stormy weather.

The number of GTA residents without power is not clear.

Several residents are reporting wind damage and fallen trees in their neighbourhoods.
