A former NFL player is under arrest, after an overnight traffic stop turns into a high risk takedown in Scarborough, CP24 has learned.

One of the five people charged is former NFL linebacker Henri Crockett. Crockett, 34, who played for the Atlanta Falcons and Minnesota Vikings.

Officers stopped a car on Pilot Street in the Kingston Road and Lawrence Avenue area for a traffic offence.

But they called for back-up after noticing one of several people in the car had a semi-automatic handgun.

An officer suffered a hand injury during a struggle with one of the suspects.
