Flames were visible when crews arrived on the scene, and the blaze was beginning to spread to a neighbouring home.

Careless smoking is being listed as the cause of a three-alarm blaze in the city's west end that damaged three homes Monday night.

One home was severely damaged in the blaze near High Park in the Roncesvalles Avenue and Dundas Street area.

The fire broke out just before 10 p.m. in a detached home on Fermanagh Avenue. Flames were visible when crews arrived on the scene, and the blaze was beginning to spread to a neighbouring home.

The Fire Marshal's Offices has been called in, and investigators suspect the blaze started when someone tossed a cigarette under a deck. A pile of combustibles, such as dry leaves and twigs, helped fuel the blaze.

Nearby homes were evacuated while crews worked to bring the blaze under control.

There are no reports of any injuries, and total damage is estimated at about $750,000.
