The Ontario Environment Ministry has issued a smog advisory for numerous communities across Ontario, including the GTA, and parts of cottage country including Muskoka, and Barrie, Orillia and Midland.

The advisory comes as temperatures are expected to reach 30C in parts of the province over the weekend.

People with asthma, lung disease or heart disease need to take extra precautions.

The advisory covers most of southern Ontario, including Windsor, the Niagara Region, and the Ottawa Area. Air quality reports by city are available on the Ministry of the Environment's website.

The advisory will stay in effect until further notice.

Last year, Ontario saw eight smog advisories covering 17 days.
