Toronto police have released security pictures taken aboard a Yonge Street bus, just moments before it was set on fire early Wednesday morning.
Investigators say the man shown in the photo was waiting for the bus with a woman shortly after 2:30 a.m.
The man suddenly attacked the woman, who ran onto the TTC vehicle to get away from the suspect. The man followed the woman onto the bus and sprayed the rear seats with a flammable liquid, setting the rear of the bus on fire.
Flames quickly engulfed the vehicle and heavy smoke poured out of it. When the blaze was finally put out, all that remained was a blackened shell of the bus. Everyone made it off the bus safely, and it was later towed away by the TTC.
The suspect was last seen running southbound on Yonge Street at about 2:45 a.m. He then fled in a cab.
He is described as a black male, six feet tall dressed in beige clothing, and carrying a large bag.
Anyone who can help identify him is urged to call police or Crime Stoppers.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
