HAMILTON, Ont. - Ontario Provincial Police are reporting one of the safest Thanksgiving weekends in years on the province's highways.

Sgt. Dave Woodford says so far there's only been one fatality and he is crediting "Operation Impact."

During the weekend-long campaign almost every available officer in the province is on patrol, looking for speeders, impaired drivers and those who aren't buckled up.

Hundreds of drivers have been pulled over in roadside RIDE checks across the province and several impaired driving charges have been laid.

Woodford says police will be paying special attention to people coming home from cottages on Highway 400.
