GODERICH, Ont. - Two 12-year-old boys have been charged with assault with a weapon after girls were shot with air guns.

Provincial police say an 11-year-old girl was shot several times with air guns Sunday afternoon.

Officers found that two boys had been playing with some other kids when one of the boys pulled air guns -- which use compressed air to shoot small pellets -- out of his backpack.

Police allege the boys shot the girl about 20 times at close range.

Two other girls were also shot, and some shots broke the skin and left welts.

Police located the boys and seized their air guns. They have been charged with assault with a weapon and discharging a gun with intent.
