cp24.com

A man has died after being hit by a car while trying to cross Highway 400, north of Barrie, during a spate of wintry weather in the area on Tuesday.

Police say they don’t know why a man got out of his vehicle and tried to cross the highway.

Highway 400 southbound is closed at White Falls Road, near Honey Harbour, following a series of crashes which began when the man darted out into traffic.

The initial collision caused three separate crashes involving a total of five vehicles at about 11:30 a.m.

The area’s roads are icy, with mixed precipitation blowing into the region from Georgian Bay.

None of the other people involved in the crash are seriously injured.

Police are asking those travelling southbound from Parry Sound to reconsider their plans until the weather clears up.

A police technical traffic investigation unit is on the scene.
