LONDON, Ont. - Bus riders in London will be looking for other ways of getting around the city tomorrow.

Talks have broken down between the London Transit Commission and the union representing 450 of the city's transit workers, paving the way for a strike at midnight tonight.

The two sides met yesterday in a last-ditch effort to hammer out a contract, but were unsuccessful.

Pat Honeyford, spokesman for Amalgamated Transit Union Local 741, says the LTC did not want to discuss the proposal the union put forward.

In a statement on its website, the LTC says the two sides mutually agreed to end talks and apologizes for the inconvenience to the city's transit riders.

London's 35 bus routes handle nearly 80,000 trips each day.
