It’s been a deadly day on the roads as York Regional Police investigate the death of a pedestrian in Vaughan Tuesday afternoon.

A woman was struck by a vehicle just after the noon hour on Rutherford Road, between Jane Street and Highway 400.

The woman may have been crossing Rutherford Road against a red light. An air ambulance was called in, but called off a short time later. The woman was rushed by ambulance to Sunnybrook Hospital, where she died of her injuries. Her identity has not been released.

Meanwhile, Peel police have arrested a 28-year-old driver wanted in a fatal hit-and-run crash in Mississauga on Monday night.

Mississauga resident Charles Woods, 75, was crossing Lakeshore Road East of Hurontario Road after 10 p.m., when he was struck and killed.

The driver fled the scene going westbound on Lakeshore Road East. On Tuesday, Mississauga resident Dominik Banka, 28, was arrested after police received a tip from the public.

He is now in custody.
