CFIA expands processed food recall over salmonella

cp24.com

Canada has expanded its recall of processed food containing hydrolyzed vegetable protein that may be contaminated with salmonella.

The recall now lists more than two dozen items. But the recall could soon be more widespread, because HVP is a flavor-enhancing ingredient used in many packaged foods.

All of the products containing the vegetable protein were produced by Basic Food Flavors in Las Vegas. The Canadian recall follows one in the U.S. that currently lists 101 products.

For the full list of recalled products in Canada, visit the CFIA website.

HVP is commonly used in soups, hot dogs, dips, salad dressings, frozen dinners and snack foods.
