TORONTO — Pride Toronto organizers had to shout to be heard over a raucous crowd booing and chanting "shame" at a press conference today.

The organizers were discussing their decision to ban the term Queers Against Israeli Apartheid from this year's Pride-related events.

Pride Toronto says it supports freedom of speech, but it can't allow the group to march in the parade due to threats of violence and their funding being threatened.

Queers Against Israeli Apartheid has marched in the gay parade for the past two years, but the name has angered some people who feel it is anti-Semitic.

Dozens of people showed up at Pride Toronto's announcement today and noisily voiced their opposition to the decision.

Many had taped their mouths shut -- removing it at times to shout -- and decried what they called Pride Toronto's censorship.
