TORONTO - About 300 people staged a noisy but peaceful protest late Monday afternoon outside the Israeli consulate in Toronto.

Waving Palestinian flags, the protesters shouted their opposition to Israel's deadly commando raid on ships off Gaza.

Palestinian groups have said the ships were carrying aid, while Israel has said the flotilla was not a humanitarian mission.

The UN Security Council met in an emergency session Monday to discuss the raid that left nine people dead.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cut short his visit to Canada and cancelled a trip to Washington to deal with the aftermath of the raid.
