Jamie Castello

Where Jaime stands on the big issues facing Toronto:

1. What are your thoughts on Transit City?

"I really want the TTC to buy two tunneling machines. If they buy those, they could start building new tunnels. In Madrid, Spain they've done this and they keep building new subway lines every year."

2. Bike lanes have become a heated topic during this campaign. Where do you stand on the issue?

"I am in favour of adding new bike lanes, but I would like to ask citizens where they would like to implement them."

3. How do you feel about the idea of charging road tolls?

"I am not in favour of road-tolls. If we implement them I think we would negatively affect students who come into Toronto for school."

4. How do you plan on bringing "new life" to the city?

"I want to try to connect all non-profit associations, cultural groups and make sure every sector of our city celebrates their culture."

5. How do you feel about the crime level in Toronto? How do you plan on addressing it?

"Unemployment often leads to crime, so I would focus my efforts on creating new jobs to keep potential-criminals busy."

6. How important is accountability while you are in office and how do you plan on monitoring this?

"I consider myself a labour-activist, I don't like corruption, I've been fighting for many years for people filing human-rights complaints."

7. What are your plans for the city's budget including property taxes?

"I plan to bring new revenue to the city. For example we have Ontario Place and the CNE that are closed during the winter, I have plans to keep them open all-year round and generate new tax-dollars. I also believe the land-transfer tax is really hurting the city and I would find a way to eliminate it."
