Police are investigating after a woman was stabbed to death and a pedestrian was struck on the 401 in Etobicoke.

Emergency crews were called to an apartment building near Dixon Road and Kipling Avenue where they found a woman stabbed to death inside a unit at about 2:30 a.m.

Soon after, police closed the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 near Dixon Road after a man in his late twenties was struck by a vehicle. The eastbound lanes were closed closed from Eglinton Avenue to Dixon Road for much of the morning rush hour and reopened at about 9 a.m.

The male victim was taken to hospital with serious head injuries, Emergency Medical Services say.

Police interviewed people in the neighbourhood Tuesday morning, but they have released few details about what happened.

The woman's death is Toronto's 23 homicide of the year.
