Fans of Spain's soccer team swarmed College Street Sunday afternoon after the European team won the 2010 World Cup.

Hundreds of jubilant fans who gathered at local pubs for hours to watch the game between Spain and Netherlands spilled onto the road after the game ended just after 5 p.m.

Fans climbed on top of streetcars, a U-Haul truck and a transit shelter. There were reports of some damage.

Public transit officials say they have cut power to the streetcars and will reroute their vehicles away from the scene.

As a result, there is no service on the 505 Dundas, 506 Carlton and 511 Bathurst routes.

College St.is expected to be closed at Bathurst Street for the impromptu street party.

Dutch dreams dead

Meanwhile, in Toronto's Liberty Village,  a large crowd of loud Dutch fans fell silent after Spanish midfielder Andres Inlesta scored in extra time.

Several fans shouted at the screen, claiming the goal was offside. However, the goal counted, leading to the 1-0 victory.

Fans of the Netherlands soccer team were gathered outside the School Bakery all day, dressed in orange to show their support.

Neither team had ever won a World Cup championship before today.
