Mayoral candidate Rob Ford finds himself at the centre of a lawsuit with the owner of the Boardwalk Pub taking him to court for "false and defamatory statements."

George Foulidis held a press conference on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Beach pub on Lakeshore Boulevard East to announce his claims against the city councillor.

Foulidis says Ford made "false and defamatory statements" against him by claiming his company's behaviour was "corrupt."

Ford made the comments after City Hall recently gave the Boardwalk Pub an exclusive 20-year lease to provide food services along the eastern beaches. The deal was granted without a tender.

In a press release, Foulidis says, "I will not sit idly by while a very public figure makes false allegations against me and accuses me of being a criminal."

Ford's allegations have damaged his reputation and business, the owner says.

A Ford spokesperson tells CP24 that he isn't available for comment, but adds that he is not apologizing and he hasn't been served with legal papers.
