A probe into the emergency landing of a United Airlines flight at Pearson airport on Monday night has revealed that an error by the pilot led to the incident.

An investigation has revealed that the pilot in command had inadvertently initiated the emergency code after spilling coffee on the plane's radio equipment, which interfered with the communication equipment.

Flight UAL940 from Chicago to Germany made the emergency landing before 10 p.m. after an issue was reported with the plane's communication equipment.

The plane landed safely with 241 passengers on board.
