Sources say the TTC will not raise fares at the start of February, CTV News has learned.
TTC Chair Karen Stintz has scheduled a news conference for 2 p.m. where the news is expected to be made official.
Mayor Rob Ford said tokens could go up by 10 cents and the cost of a metropass could go up $5, among other fare hikes.
The increase would have brought in an additional $24 million a year to the TTC.
For the average TTC Metropass user, fares would have gone up by $60 a year. Late last year, Ford fulfilled one of his main campaign promises to drivers by cutting the $60 vehicle registration tax.
Ford said regardless of the fare outcome, he expects the TTC will improve considerably by September not only with its overall cleanliness but also with its service, particularly with WheelTrans.
