Get ready to shed your winter coat, at least for a few days.

Record-breaking temperatures are expected in the Greater Toronto Area by week's end with Environment Canada calling for spring-like weather.

Starting Wednesday, daytime highs are expected to peak well above the normal -1 C.

The mercury is expected to rise to 6 C on Wednesday, but that mark will be surpassed by highs of 9 C and 12 C on Thursday and Friday, respectively, Environment Canada says.

Records may be eclipsed if the forecast holds. The warmest temperature ever recorded on Feb. 17 is 7.4 C, while the record high for Feb. 18 is 10.6 C.

But there may be a downside to the snow-melting temperatures – drizzle and rain are expected with the unseasonably warm weather.

The temperature is expected to return to normal on the weekend with highs of -2 C and -3 C on Saturday and Sunday, Environment Canada says.
