Police are investigating a Wednesday morning home invasion in the city's southeast.

Police say at 2:30 a.m., a woman called 911 to report that three masked males had broken into her home on the 6100 block of Penworth Rd. S.E.

The culprits tied up the couple, demanded money and searched the residence.  The woman's husband was assaulted and sustained minor injuries but did not require medical attention.

The man, who did not want to be identified, said he had been zapped with a stun gun several times.

The woman managed to untie herself and called 911, but the males had fled in an unknown direction by the time officers arrived. A K-9 police dog unit was called in but could not track the suspects.

Police describe the first suspect as a white male in his early 20s with a slim to medium build, and about six feet (183 cm) tall.

He was wearing a black baseball cap, black hoodie, black pants, black vinyl shoes, and carrying a handgun.

The second suspect is described as a white male in his early 20s with a slim to medium build, and about 5'8" to 5'10" (173 to 178 cm) tall.

He was wearing all black clothing with shiny shoes.

There is no description for the third suspect.

Insp. Keith Cain said there has been a rash of home invasions in Calgary, many of them targeted and involving people who lead a high-risk lifestyle.

"In this case, we're just not sure why they chose this residence," he said.

Anyone with information on this home invasion is asked to call the Calgary Police Service's robbery unit at 403-428-8787 or Crime Stoppers using any of the following methods:
