A Newmarket, Ont., boy has landed the coveted title role in the Toronto production of "Billy Elliot."

Ty Forhan, 12, has been active in local theatre since he was five.

He replaces Cesar Corrales, who took his final bow in the show on May 1.

"Billy Elliot," about a coal miner's son who yearns to be a dancer, opened at the city's Canon Theatre to rave reviews on March 1.

Featuring music by Elton John, it's scheduled to run until Sept. 3.
