Investigators are probing the cause of a fire that broke out in a Whitby apartment block on Wednesday morning.

A Whitby Fire Department spokesperson said fire crews were called to the high-rise building at 101 White Oaks Court shortly after 6:30 a.m.

It's believed the fire occurred in a suite on the 12th floor.

No one was inside the suite when firefighters arrived, the spokesperson said.

Photos from a CP24 viewer and footage from Chopper 24 showed black smoke pouring from one of the suites.

No injuries have been reported.

The blaze was contained to a single unit, but there is smoke and water damage to other suites, the fire spokesperson said.

The building was evacuated, but its residents have returned to their suites.
