Ontario Provincial Police have charged one of their own after an off-duty officer was accused of stealing from a store in southwestern Ontario.

Police said the officer is accused of stealing from a business in Leamington last Friday afternoon.

The alleged shoplifting incident was reported to Essex County OPP officers by the store's loss prevention officer.

Nicole Mailloux, a 30-year-old OPP constable with two years of experience, is charged with theft under $5,000.

Mailloux, currently assigned to Chatham-Kent OPP's highway safety division, has been placed on administrative duties.

She is scheduled to appear in court in November.
