CP24.com readers were asked to share their Remembrance Day stories with us, whether they participated in the war or grew up with a loved one in service. These are their memories and the photos that have defined their experience.

Memories

My father George Potter passed away on October 13, 2011. This will be the first Remembrance Day that we will not be with him and we miss him.

He was a great man. A wonderful father, grandfather and friend to all. He was our hero. We love him so much.

My father was only 16 when he joined the Royal Canadian Navy. He needed my grandmother's permission to join the Navy. He was just a young teenager.

My dad was a member of the Elite Combined Operations Battle Group aboard The HMCS Prince David and was part of the D-Day invasion force that hit Juno Beach. After operations were completed in Normandy, The Prince David sailed to liberate Greece and then Italy.

When asked if he was scared, he would always respond by saying "It didn't matter, we had a job to do."

We were so proud of him.

My dad lived a life full of love. He loved his family so much. We were everything to him. Three of his grandchildren are following in his footsteps and are in the Canadian Military.

On Friday, November 11, 2011, our family will be attending the Remembrance Day Service at The George Hess Wing of Sunnybrook Hospital for Veterans where my father resided for fourteen years. We will be dedicating a flag in our fathers honour - GEORGE POTTER, ABLE BODY SEAMAN, COMBINED OPERATIONS, THE ROYAL CANADIAN NAVY. This will become a family tradition.

DAD YOU SACRIFICE WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN- YOUR LEGACY WILL LIVE ON.

We will miss and love you forever
