CP24.com readers were asked to share their Remembrance Day stories with us, whether they participated in the war or grew up with a loved one in service. These are their memories and the photos that have defined their experience.

Memories

My grandfather was in WWII and he was captured in a German POW camp after his plane broke in two and he fell out.

He lived through the experience by somehow opening up his parachute while unconscious and got caught on a chimney in Poland.

The people who owned the house had to give him up and he was put into a Polish German POW camp. After that he lived on bread and water for 9 months and then woke up to an empty camp when the war has ended.

Once he got home he lived until January 18th, 2006. He was a great man and great grandfather.

Sincerely,

Robert Kubbinga
