Striking York Region Transit workers took their revolt beyond the picket line Wednesday morning.

After staging rallies and picket lines off an on during the seven-week strike, workers represented by Amalgamated Transit Union Local 113 crammed onto some YRT buses that haven't been halted by the strike, leaving little or no room for passengers trying to get to work or school during the morning commute.

ATU Local 113 officials told CP24 they bought transit passes and planned to ride certain buses for several hours.

During the strike, GO Transit buses aren't pulling into Richmond Hill Centre to avoid delays caused by picket lines.

About 600 bus drivers and mechanics have been on strike since Oct. 24, halting service to 60 per cent of the region's bus routes. The workers, employed by Miller Transit and First Canada, are represented by ATU locals 113 and 1587.

Employees represented by ATU Local 1587 don't have any plans to picket Wednesday, officials told CP24.
