The wait is over.

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford and his brother stepped on a scale and revealed their weight Monday as they kicked off a weight-loss campaign that will raise money for charity.

After stripping off his suit jacket and taking off his shoes, Rob Ford stepped on the scale in front of reporters and city hall colleagues, and weighed in at 330 pounds.

Ford said his goal is to lose 50 pounds by June 18, meaning is hoping to be down to 280 pounds.

"This is not healthy. You can't be doing all this and running the city at 330 pounds," Ford said after he weighed in.

Before weighing in for the Cut the Waist Challenge, Ford told reporters he is looking forward to the challenge and making a healthy change in his life.

His brother, city Coun. Doug Ford, stepped on the scale first, weighing in at 275 pounds.

"This is probably the most humbling experience Rob and I have ever had, but we're going to achieve our goals," Doug Ford said.

Rob and Doug Ford are hoping fellow Torontonians will join them and try to shed some pounds, and they've issued a challenge to the leaders of other Canadian cities.

Weekly weigh-ins

Rob Ford, who once described himself as "300 pounds of fun," and his brother plan to hold public weigh-ins every Monday until the end of the six-month crusade as a way to motivate themselves to shed pounds.

Rob Ford said his Achilles heel is late-night eating and ice cream. He's vowing to cut out the late-night snacks and do more walking and jogging.

People can track the Fords' progress at cutthewaist.ca, and can use the website as a hub to share recipes, exercise routines and healthy-living tips. In addition to tracking the amount of weight shed by the Fords, it will also keep a running tally of the pledges raised.

Ford's predecessor, David Miller, lost 50 pounds while he was in office.
