Toronto police evicted a small group of protesters from their encampment on provincial land next to city hall early Wednesday morning.

About a dozen police officers ordered the protesters to remove their tents, structures and belongings, which were set up in an area between city hall and Osgoode Hall.

Protesters were kicked out after they received an initial eviction notice from Infrastructure Ontario on Jan. 19. The notice ordered them to leave the property at 361 University Ave. that afternoon, but they stayed.

Another notice ordered them to leave Saturday, but the protesters refused to budge, a spokesman for Infrastructure Ontario told CP24.

After that, Infrastructure Ontario asked Toronto police to get involved.

The protesters, part of the stifled Occupy Toronto movement, set up their tents in mid-January to protest Mayor Rob Ford's administration and service cuts within the city's budget.

The eviction was peaceful and no arrests were reported..

The protesters, known for a two-month occupation of St. James Park last year, had originally planned to pitch their tents on the grounds of Nathan Phillips Square but city hall security ordered them to move off the property.
