Toronto police say a man who could pose a danger to the public was located Tuesday morning, about 12 hours after he disappeared.

Police officers launched an extensive search for 51-year-old George May, who has been reported missing at least once before, after he was last seen Monday at about 5 p.m. in the area of Ossington Avenue and Queen Street West.

May resides near the intersection at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), police told CP24.

Police said May returned to CAMH on his own Tuesday at 7 a.m.

Officers were actively searching the neighbourhood and checking specific locations for May due to several concerns.

In a news release issued while May was still missing, police said they are concerned for his safety, but they also warned the public because he has a history of violence and may pose a danger.

May was charged with second-degree murder in the slaying of 41-year-old Beverly Sims in 2001, but was found not criminally responsible due to mental illness.

This is the second time in three months police have issued a public appeal for tips to locate May. The first appeal was issued after he disappeared in early January. He was arrested three days later under the Mental Health Act.
