A grandmother was zapped with a stun gun during a violent home invasion in Mississauga late Wednesday night, Peel Regional Police say.

Police said the woman suffered minor injuries in the assault, which occurred at a home on Cawthra Road, north of Bloor Street, shortly before 11 p.m.

Peel EMS officials told CP24 the woman was taken to hospital as a precaution.

The woman fell down some stairs and a younger man was tied up during a confrontation with the suspects, who eluded police following the incident.

A man named Peter said his grandmother and brother were in the bungalow when suspects "with shotguns" forced their way inside.

Peter told CP24's Cam Woolley the suspects ransacked the house and stole a laptop and other valuables.

The house may have been targeted, Peter said.
