MONTREAL - A Twitter invitation from Lance Armstrong brought out scores of running buddies for the controversial cyclist.

People were asked to join him on a fast-paced training run yesterday in Montreal.

Armstrong, who ran up Mount Royal with hundreds of runners, says he was surprised by how many people showed up.

Armstrong lost his seven Tour de France titles after the U-S Anti-Doping Agency determined he had used banned substances.

He shocked the sports world when he announced he will no longer challenge the doping charges against him.

Armstrong is also a cancer survivor and was in Montreal to speak at the World Cancer Congress.

His supporters say despite the controversy, he's an inspiration who conquered cancer and raised money to battle the disease.

What started on Twitter also ended on Twitter when Armstrong tweeted out a bilingual thank you to his running buddies.
