TORONTO -- Novak Djokovic will get an early test in his return to the court thanks to a difficult draw at the Rogers Cup.

Djokovic, the tournament's top seed, will face either 22nd-ranked Gael Monfils or 35th-ranked Radek Stepanek in his opening match after a first-round bye.

After winning his seventh Grand Slam title at Wimbledon, Djokovic was all smiles at Friday afternoon's draw at Queen's Park, more because of his recent wedding and the upcoming birth of the couple's first child than how the bracket stacked up.

Djokovic, in fact, called it a "terrible draw" for him, in no small part because he could meet eighth-seeded Andy Murray in the quarter-finals.

Canadian Milos Raonic, seeded sixth, is in the bottom half of the draw and will open against either Jack Sock or Jurgen Melzer. Fourth-seeded Tomas Berdych would be his quarter-final opponent.

Roger Federer headlines Raonic's half of the bracket, moved up to the second seed after defending champion Rafael Nadal withdrew earlier this week with a wrist injury.

In addition to Raonic, there are three other Canadians confirmed so far to play in the main draw at the Toronto tournament: Vasek Pospisil, Frank Dancevic and wild-card Peter Polansky. Pospisil got a rough draw as he'll face Richard Gasquet in the first round, while Dancevic will face a qualifier.

The qualifying rounds will be played this weekend.
