MONTREAL -- Sebastian Giovinco scored his fifth and sixth goals of the season as Toronto FC cooled off the Montreal Impact with a 2-0 victory on Saturday afternoon.

The reigning Major League Soccer MVP scored from the penalty spot in the first half and on a counterattack in the second as TFC (3-2-2) won a second game in a row and continued their strong form on an extended road trip. It was TFC's seventh straight road game to start the campaign.

They avenged a 3-0 loss at Montreal in the playoffs last October and kept silent the Impact's goal bell -- manned for the day by MMA star Georges St. Pierre -- silent with another strong defensive effort.

Montreal (4-3-0), which has won two in a row, ended a 9-0-0 run at Saputo Stadium since Didier Drogba became a regular starter on Sept. 5.

Impact right back Hassoun Camara left with a leg injury in the 20th minute, causing Ambroise Oyonto to move to the right side when Maxim Tissot came on for his first action of the season.

In the 39th, Jozy Altidore dribbled past Oyongo and was taken down in the penalty area by a sliding Victor Cabrera. Referee Ted Unkel immediately pointed to the spot.

Giovinco made no mistake, slotting a low shot inside the left post for his fifth goal of the season.

Led by Drew Moor and captain Michael Bradley, the Toronto defence held Drogba to a near-miss in the first half -- a header of a Marco Donadel free kick just wide in the 23rd minute.

Toronto's Jonathan Osorio had a glittering chance in the 28th, but Evan Bush dove for the save on a shot from the edge of the area.

The Impact pressed hard in the second half, but didn't manage a clear chance on Clint Irwin.

But it was TFC that scored, as a mistimed slide by Oyongo allowed Will Johnson to send Giovinco in on the left side and slide a low shot to the far corner from distance.

Notes :-- Drogba and midfielder Donadel returned to the starting lineup for Montreal, while Cabrera was able to start after leaving last week's game with a head injury. Fullback Donny Toia sat out with a calf injury suffered this week in practice. . . TFC had Damien Prequis back on defence replacing Josh Williams.
