One person is dead after fire gutted an Innisfil home early Saturday morning.

The blaze broke out at the home on Henderson Drive at around 2 a.m.

The 82-year-old homeowner had been missing following the fire. It is not known if he was the one killed in the blaze.

The 53-year-old son of the homeowner was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation after he tried to gain entrance to the building.

"By the time we arrived the home was fully engulfed," Chief Randy Smith told CP24 at the scene. "This is an unserviced area, so there are no fire hydrants in the vicinity and we had to truck in water from about one kilometre away."

The Ontario Fire Marshall has been called in to investigate the cause of the fire.

The home is considered to be a total loss.
