Toronto FC forward Sebastian Giovinco has been ruled out of Wednesday's Major League Soccer all-star game and will be replaced by teammate Jozy Altidore.

Altidore flew to Denver with Giovinco on Tuesday to act as insurance in case the star Italian had to miss the game. Giovinco, who has been struggling with a heel injury, was ruled unable to play following a medical examination Tuesday.

Toronto captain Michael Bradley is also skipping the game due to injury.

The 25-year-old Altidore is in his first season with Toronto, returning to MLS in the off-season deal that sent unhappy forward Jermain Defoe to Sunderland of England's Premier League.

Altidore has eight goals in 16 appearances this year between MLS league play and the Amway Canadian Championship.

Wednesday's game in suburban Denver features a team of MLS all stars against Premier League side Tottenham.
