UTICA, N.Y. - Dustin Jeffrey had a power-play goal 47 seconds into the third and the Utica Comets scored three in total in the period to beat the Toronto Marlies 5-2 on Friday in American Hockey League action.

Alexandre Grenier had a goal and two assists for the Comets (31-14-6), the farm club of the Vancouver Canucks. Alex Friesen and Cal O'Reilly also scored with Will Acton adding an empty-net, short-handed goal.

Ryan Rupert -- on the power play -- and Brendan Leipsic answered in the third period for Toronto (21-20-9), the affiliate of the Maple Leafs.

Jacob Markstrom turned away 26 shots for Utica while Antoine Bibeau made 23 saves in the loss.

The Comets converted twice on four power-play chances while the Marlies went 1 for 3.
