Target Corp. will open up six stores in Toronto as part of its plans to expand into Canada.

On Thursday, Target Canada president Tony Fischer announced the first wave of store openings, which will see 105 stores opened across Canada by the spring of 2013.

In Toronto, Target will open at Shoppers World Danforth, the East York Town Centre, , Bridlewood Mall in Scarborough, Centrepoint Mall in North York and Cloverdale Mall and Woodbine Centre in Etobicoke.

The initial rollout will see Target open at least one store in every province and Fischer told the Toronto Star that another batch of stores will be announced in September. He said Target will spend about $10 million on each site.

In January, the U.S. department store chain spent $1.8 billion on purchasing the lease rights to 220 Zellers locations with the intention of rebranding them as Target outlets.
