The top three candidates in the race for Toronto mayor went face-to-face on CP24 on Tuesday night in the final televised debate before next Monday's election.

Held at the Masonic Temple at Yonge Street and Davenport Road, the debate saw the gloves come off for what will be the final time for many voters. The race is now in the home-stretch as the countdown toward next Monday moves into overdrive.

For Joe Pantalone, George Smitherman and Rob Ford, it was a night to try to drive home their messages.

Ford attacked Smitherman for his record as Minister of Health, while Smitherman lobbed similar complaints of support for sole-sourced contracts back at his opponent.

Among voters who are "very likely" to vote, Ford leads with 43.9 per cent. Smitherman is right behind with 40.5 per cent of the vote while support for Joe Pantalone has remained mainly steady at 15 per cent.

The findings have a margin of error of 3.1 per cent. The research is based on a random telephone sample of 1,000 Torontonians who identified themselves as "very likely" voters.

Pantalone spent much of the night assuring voters and his competitors that he plans to stay in the race until the end.

There have been more than 100 debates on various platforms since the municipal race began.
