Dreaming of a white Christmas?

You may get your wish.

Environment Canada's top weather guru tells CP24 there will be snow on the ground Dec. 25, but how much snow depends on where you live in the Greater Toronto Area.

Based on the national weather service's winter outlook, snow cover will likely be heavier in areas north of Highway 401, while there's a slimmer chance of snow cover in areas south of Canada's busiest highway before Christmas Day, said senior climatologist David Phillips.

"If we look at the past, there's a 50 per cent chance if you live south of the 401," Phillips said.

On the heels of one of the warmest falls on record, Phillips said Environment Canada is predicting a "warmer than normal" winter for Toronto because of La Nina.

Last month was the second warmest November on record, keeping with a trend of unusually warm weather.

Phillips said the last eight months have been warmer than normal in Toronto, and he doesn't think the trend will end this winter.
