The extreme cold weather alert for the City of Toronto has been terminated ahead of a two-day reprieve from the frigid cold.

Medical Officer of Health Dr. David McKeown made the decision to end the alert on Wednesday morning as the temperature began to warm up from an overnight low of – 12 C.

According to Environment Canada, the temperature is expected hit – 2 C later today before warming up to a downright balmy 0 C on Thursday.

The mild snap won’t last, though, as the weather agency is predicting a high of – 7 C on Friday and – 8 C on Saturday.
